Money can be a big worry for anyone
If you are finding money matters difficult -you are not alone. Ross-on-Wye and the HR9 area has lots of local free support available for everyone, whatever their financial situation.
Ross-on-Wye Money Box is a project run by the Ross-on-Wye Community Development Trust to show all of the ways people can get help and advice about money and debt in the HR9 area.
This leaflet contains details about:
- How to avoid debt where you can
- What debt help you can get
- Who in our area can help with a debt problem
- How you can help others who may be worried about debt
Causes of debt
There are so many ways that debt can start, and then accumulate. Whether through losing a job, a relationship breakdown, credit card over-spend, health troubles -it is important to remember that you are not alone, that it is not illegal to owe money, and there are always opportunities to deal with any kind of debt.
It can be tempting to take out a loan to pay off debts, but there are pitfalls. Loan rates can be extremely high, leading quickly to greater debt. Some lenders operate illegally.
Financial abuse involves controlling someone’s ability to keep and use money. It can range from forcing someone to account for every penny they spend, to restricting access to savings, and stealing.
Home heating and other fuel
Bills for all kinds of energy are going in just one direction right now. There are ways to reduce your bills, and help is available so that everyone can heat their home in winter
How can Ross Money Box help?
We are raising awareness amongst everyone in HR9 about debt. We host regular Managing Your Money courses, run by experienced facilitators at Christians Against Poverty, which show how to manage money effectively.
Professionals: Can you help others in debt?
How debt-aware are you? Our Debt Awareness training is for professionals who, through your work, are in contact with people who may struggle with finances.
